Best way to import or convert MP4 to edit in FCE
Posted by Jean-francois Noel on April 6, 2010 at 12:44 amHello,
I have MP4 files from my GoPro HD Camera (codec H.264, 720p, 30fps) that I would like to edit in FCE.
What is the best software/converter f(and what settings) to decompress and export these files so that I can edit them easily in FCE?
Thanks,
JF

April 6, 2010 at 1:06 amDownload Mpeg Streamclip, available all over the Web (and it’s free). Use the Export Quicktime function, and you’ll have to choose AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec), as that is essentially your only HD choice to edit in FCE.

Is it normal that 4 min of .MP4 converted to .mov takes 2gb of space?
Thanks again,
JF

April 6, 2010 at 6:01 pmPro Res 422 uses between 65 and 72Gbs per hour. Hard drives are very inexpensive these days, so you should never allow that to interfere with your work.

May 1, 2010 at 3:16 pmHello again David,
If I use Final Cut Studio, I guess that my best codec to convert mp4 is ProRes 422 HQ?
Thanks -

February 25, 2013 at 6:35 amFCE is designed to edit AIC(Apple Intermediate Codec) format as well as iMovie.
The best software is a professional Video Converter for you to reformat MP4 video to AIC/ProRes MOV on Mac.
