  • can’t view avi (from mini DV capture on PC) in mpeg stream clip

I recently had some many dv tapes converted to avi files. I am going to convert them to mov. I am using mpeg streamclip. However, mpeg streamclip’s viewer will not show video but audio comes through. I can convert this file to mov but the video is not present post conversion as well thus it is not present in FCPro. I can open up this same avi file in Quicktime Player just fine. What settings should I be using? Why can’t I see the video before or after conversion?…it is present with Quicktime Player.

    Here are my settings:
    FCPro Summary
Sequence Preset – DV NTSC 48khz

MPEG Streamclip – Other Formats Settings:
    Format – QuickTime Movie
    Quality – 50%
    Frame Size – 720 X 480 (unscaled)
Field Dominance – upper field first
    Interlaced Scaling is checked

    Under Options:
    Settings for Video:
    Compression Type – DV/DVCPRO – NTSC
    Frame Rate – Current
    Data Rate – Automatic
    Compressor Quality – Best
    Scan Mode – Interlaced
    Aspect Ration 4:3

    Filters – None

    Size:
    Dimensions – Compressor native
Everything else is blank or unchecked

    Hi Patrick,
MPGStreamclip offers a great feature. You can “rewrap” QT as AVI (or back) without rendering.
See the option in “Save as..”.
That works for the codecs supported by both formats (DV, DV50,..).

    About your issue;
    Sounds like a codec issue.
What you get in the Info (Comm-I) when you open in QT?
