switching to pro res question
I am aware this pretty basic stuff, so hoping I can get an answer quickly:
Situation: FCP 6.06, with a Kona 2 card (about 5 year old system). Capturing wild pc output with audio for editing into promo (gameplay footage). I use a customised easy set up that works fine, but it is based around uncompressed 8 bit 422 capture, so the files are huge.So I start thinking – why not adapt this set up to compress using apple pro res 422 instead, thinking I’ll save space, and it still looks great.
Result: Captured picture is completely out of sync with the audio and there is a long black stretch at the end of the captured clip, over which the out of sync audio continues to run. It’s not even just out of sync – it’s running slow even if I resync it. Dissolves render incorrently also. There is some major fundamental frame rate issue going on, but all I did was change the compressor to prores 422 in capture and sequence settings – everything else is the same.
