  HD to SD to DVD from AVCHD

  Hi there.

  I really appreciate the amount of time you are all putting into this.

  I have footage that I shot with my HD camera. It’s AVCHD, 1920×1080 (1080i60) and it was imported into iMovie at 1080i 960×540. I then exported the footage as an XML file, then imported into Final Cut Express.

  Now after editing the footage I would like to export it to burn to DVD with the highest quality possible. The video is about 50 minutes long and includes two tracks of audio.

  I originally exported it as HD1920x1080 with a data rate of 9000, deinterlaced, and that looks ok.

  Any suggestions?

  If you’re going to DVD, you’re 1920X1080 file is almost useless. DVDs are standard def and only read the MPEG codec.

  what software do you have available? What do you plan on using to burn your DVD? Do you have Compressor and DVD Studio Pro?

  So exporting as Quicktime MPEG-4, then burning to DVD, won’t work?

  I don’t have Final Cut Studio but I recently picked up Adobe Media Encoder. I have also seen a few HD to SD converters out there… just didn’t want to buy one unless I needed to.

  oops, sorry. didn’t know you responded.

  No, MPEG-4 won’t work on a DVD.

  You need to make an MPEG-2 file for the image and a .ac3 file for the audio.
