clips from dvd
Posted by Chuck Emary on February 20, 2010 at 12:34 amHi,
I have imported a dvd into FCP3. I cannot figure out how to save pieces of it off as clips or whatever the right term is. The end goal is to save off clips from many DVD’s and then reassemble them into new movies. How do I do this? Thanks,

I’m not sure we understand what you mean. Did you convert it with MPEG Streamclip (or something else) and if so into what codec? Did you then import that into an FCP project? Now what do you mean by

Do you want to break the video into smaller units and re-edit them?
I’m not one of the experts here, but I’ll help if I can. Just don’t know what you mean.

February 20, 2010 at 3:39 amHi Chuck.
I’ve successfully used a software package called DVDxDV to extract clips from DVDs for use within FCP. It’s pretty easy to use as well. They offer a trial version that you can try for free.

February 20, 2010 at 5:41 amI converted the DVD into a *.dv format and opened it up in FCP. I now wnat to cut out various sections of the DVD and save them off. I need to do this with about 60 more DVD’s. Once I am done I then want to go back and reassemble the individual pieces into single movies.
Imagine having your daughter’s birthday parties on 5 different DVD’s along with camping trips. You then want to cut them all up and make two new DVD’s, one with camping and one with birthday parties.
Hope that clarifies my question.
