    Hello,
Here’s a basic question. How much time (generally) should compressor take to compress a 1 hour 6 min HDV vid to a webcast format? It’s running at 14 hours now and looks like it’s only half done. Is this an acceptable/normal/usual amount of time for compressor?
    Thanks,
    JA

I’d help to know what kind of Mac you’re using. HDV is always going to take longer to process as it’s a long-GOP codec. If you engage Qmaster, Compressor will use multiple cores and run a lot faster. On my Mac Pro encoding mv2s for DVDs takes a little over real time. H.264 will probably take longer. I’ve never timed an H.264 encode. You might find more info about this by searching the Compression Techniques forum.

    Hi John,
Thanks for your response. My Mac is a Macbook Pro (2.53 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 Processor, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Mac OS X 10.62, FCP 6.0.6. I’ve tried different conversions to improve my time. I quit Compressor for now and am attempting an MP4 conversion for a Vimeo post using QT 10.0. I don’t know how this will impact the quality of my video. QT is telling me that this is still a 6 hour process.
    Thanks again,
    J.Avila
