FCP to Youtube format issues
Hi,
I have an HD 16:9 video that I’m trying to upload to Y/T — when I export either using “Quicktime Movie” or “Quicktime Conversion”, it gets letterboxed top and bottom, i.e. stretched. I sure there must be an easy way to avoid this?

If you use Export>>Quicktime Movie at current settings, and that is stretched or letterboxed, then your project was settings have been wrong from the very start, period, end of story.
What precisely do you see when you open Sequence>Settings, and what format was your original video?

David, Thanks for the reply.
It’s actually a bit of a mess — The project was shot HD, imported and to imovie HD, edited, exported as QT to FCP (in order to be part of a larger project / dvd which oombined several sequences some in DV some HD. The sequence settings for the big project are NTSC DV 3:2 (we were projecting on a 9×12 screen), which is obviously the problem. I made some changes to the edit in FCP, otherwise I’d upload from the imovie version … which maybe I’ll have to do in the end?

Try this setting that I put together based on Ken Stone’s most recent article on the subject. I’ve added my own tweaks that are a compromise between better image, render speed, and final file size.
