    Ok, first what I have:

    Apple iMac 10.6.2
    2.4 GHz Intel – 2 GB DDR

    Final Cut Pro 5.1.4
    Canon XH-A1
Manfrotto 351MVCF Video Tripod and Head
    Lowell P2-10 Light
    Firewire Connected
    Using Panasonic MiniDV Tapes

Me: 10 years print and web design along with a professional level understanding of DAW’s and software like Protools and Logic Studio.

What I have to do: Corporate Training Videos (and personal projects)

So I went through the Canon XH-A1 manual front to back (English section) during a flight last week and think I’m getting a better understanding of it’s functions and features, plus I’m feeling the same “bug” that came over me when I first started in design and music.

It’s good to feel inspired again.

But unlike guitars or Photoshop this is proving to be a bit more daunting as I know zip. I have and eye and creative chops to get a good end product I just don’t know in what order I should be approaching this mammoth undertaking.

At this point everything is setup (listed above) but I’m having a heck of a time transferring the footage off of my camera – pretty sure it was recorded at 60i (I’m gonna stick with 24f in the future). It’s a test reel of a buddy giving a guitar instruction – I just want something to play around with, ya know get it in there and tweak some nobs and have a go at it.

So basically my question is – how do I make the transfer? iMovie works just fine and recognizes the XH-A1 but iMovie is a bore frankly I want to jump into FC ASAP.

Finally my other question is what online tutorials does the forum recommend and is there an A.D.D. friendly book that get help me get a grasp on even the most basic of things like White Balance, Lighting and the basic rules of my new endeavor?

Thank you all again – I’m really looking forward to getting creative with all this great gear after I get the basics down.
