Running FCP 4.5 HD on a G5 Dual 1.8 ghz PowerPC

Capturing to a WesternDigital “My Book” external HD

Capturing off a Canon GL2 via firewire

Only recently I’ve been having issues capturing footage – essentially playback on the camera and in the log and capture window is 100% fine but once I set FCP to batch capture the file come up problematic.

The seem to lag on video – it will start fine but then the audio will continue but the picture will freeze. It will also jump footage and freeze frame again outside of the logged timecode even!

I first though it was a GL2 problem, like the heads were dirty, but they’ve been cleaned.

The other crazy thing is that iMovie has no issue capturing it!

Canon cameras do not work well when there are other devices on the same bus. Either put the FW drive or the camera on a separate bus using a card or capture to the internal drive without the external attached and then move the media over.

    All the best,
