    Hello people!
I hope I’m posting this thing in the right place.
Latetly I’ven trying to figure out if it’s possible to recreate the style of the Transformers DVD main menu using AE.
There’s a cube in the middle and layers of video revolve around it, but these layers are little bent.
I was able to make the layers of video revolve in a circle but I was not able to bend them, my terminology might be a little off so for those of you who haven’t seen this menu here’s the link to a snap picture of it on google.

I’m not sure if these post allow links, if you don’t see the link above, just google under images “Transformers DVD menu” and you should find the pic somewhere on the 1st page.

If it’s possible, please let know.
    Thank you all.

    ^^ That is a good Tutorial ^^

Do you have an understanding of 3D Space in AE?
Because you can build a Nested comp with the assets you are creating. Then in a new comp have a Camera move around the nested comp to get that pretty cool effect. But check out the tutorials and you will be well on your way.

If you are referring to the slight bend of the video layers in 3D space I think you are going to have to use a plug-in. Something like Zaxwerks 3D-Warps should do the trick.
    Unfortunately that’s a relatively expensive plug’in…
But I don’t think you can do it with the regular AE tools.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

yeah, i guess I need a 3D plugin or program to recreate this 3D frame bending.

Sorry I misread the original post, you can just use Effect>Distort>Optics Compensation. FOV to 50. Check the Reverse Lens Distortion & Optimal pixels.

That’s the first way to do it. there are others.

Wow, I’ve been working on that exact effect and I’ve had similar problems. I was able to get some video clips to revolve around a planet, but I couldn’t bend them. I attached each clip to a null object centered on the planet, then rotated the Null in 3D space.

It was suggested to me to use the CC Cylinder effect to make them curve. I couldn’t get it to work right though. It doesn’t curve them in 3D space, it just creates a flat layer that looks curved. If you weren’t doing any camera moves, I suppose you could use the cylinder tool and then mask out the part where it goes behind the object in the center (in my case, a planet). But I wanted to move all around the objects.

I got it to work without curved screens, but I never could figure that part out. Hopefully somebody has a good solution because I’d love to finish that effect!

Ok, I did a rough animation using solids instead of videos, so you can get an idea of where I’m stuck.
You can download the AE project here
    https://www.filefactory.com/file/f06a82/

I made it on AE 7.0 professional on a Mac, don’t know if this matter but just in case.
play around with it, and if any of u r sucessful, let me know.

Since this question passes the forum regulary I gave it a try.
I couldn’t get closer than “Making it look like 3D”
This workflow only works in certain conditions when the camera is at a “top-angle”

    Download the file at:
    https://preview.visueel.net/Frame_revolving_MR2.zip

It’s mainly about rotating the layers,
make them “look” curved with the reshape Plug In
And used Dan Ebberts’s script to show the Front/Back of the Video.

    otherwise… you’ll have to start 3D animation 🙂

    cya,

    Nice try!
in the camara view that you have, it does give you the illusion that the video layers are bend in 3D. I visited the Zarxwerks website and dowloaded their demo 3D Layer Warp and this plug-in does the job.
    Here’s a still picture
