  A 3d Sky Possible?

  Hey all!

  I am working with a composition in 3d with AE cs3. And I need to scale up video footage in the background for the sky with out losing quality…

  Is that possible? or do I need to just bite the bullet and screw up the quality a bit?

  You could use the sky footage as a 2D background layer, filling the comp frame …?

  If that won’t work, why do you need to scale it up?

  Hey steve!

  I built a city street for a live action clip of someone walking through it, and I need to pan around in the city street, but have the sky be in the correct place and not turn with it.. I did actually have the first part of the clip in 2d when i wasn’t moving the camera, but then when I started moving the camera, thats when I realized I needed it to be in 3d.

  If you move something far into the distance from the camera and then scale it up to be the same relative size, then there shouldn’t be any loss of quality.

  There’s even an expression in the AE help to scale a 3D layer up to fill the same relative size in the composition’s frame while you move it away from the camera:

  Also I think you should take a look at the Skybox tutorial I made some time ago. It could help you out. You could then orbit the camera around and see the sky for all times.
