  • Command Z doesn’t work

Posted by Richard Jordan on April 14, 2009 at 10:22 am

I’ve just started using Final Cut 6 on a MacBook Pro and found that the undo keyboard shortcut doesn’t work (command Z). The only way I can “undo” at the moment is from the pull down menu. All other keyboard shortcuts seem to work (as far as I know).
Has anyone experienced anything similar? And what’s the solution?

Is this a QWERTY keyboard? Does Cmd-Z work in other applications or the Finder?

    All the best,

    Tom

Yes it’s a regular QWERTY keyboard (bought in the UK) and cmd Z works fine with other applications.

    Try trashing the FCP preferences.

I went to the FCP preferences but the only options available with reference to the undo is “Levels of undo”. I have 10 (the default). I’ve also found that cmd X, and cmd V don’t work either in my FCP. However cmd C and the redo DO work!
All these keyboard shortcuts are fine for other applications, e.g I’ve just tried them all with excel – no problem
    🙁

I didn’t ask you to change the preferences, I asked you to trash your preferences.

    Tom,

Sorry for my delay in responding; I was away on holiday.

OK, I’ve trashed the FC6 preferences as per:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/200/878466

    It has had NO effect.

Of the basic keyboard shortcuts, the following DO NOT work:
CMD Z, CMD V, CMD X – they only work from the pulldown menu 🙁

Working shortcuts: CMD C, CMD shift Z, CMD O, CMD Q, CMD shift N, CMD shift S, CMD S

    Tom,

    Cracked it!

Solution: I live in Spain though bought my MacBook Pro in the UK. When I set up the laptop, without thinking I selected the Spanish option for the operating system. This has been the source of the problem. I’ve reverted to the English operating system and all shortcuts work fine now in FC6…. curious.
