Chromakey filter – realtime adjustments?
Hi all
I’m in the middle of learning how to chromakey in FCP06. It’s in preparation to teaching some kids at school. I’ve just watched a video on youtube of someone demonstrating how to chromakey and as he’s making tolerance changes etc, the video image on the canvas is changing automatically to show those changes. At the moment the only way to see the changes is if I drag the filter onto the video clip on the timeline each time. What am I doing wrong? How can I just get FCP to show the changes in keying colour and tolerances as I make them?Huge thank you for anyone who can help me on this one.

I don’t drag the effect icon onto the footage, I use the menus at the top to apply the effect to a highlighted clip. Then I go to the tabs in the viewer and turn down the triangular “spigots” to reveal the controls and I use the little micro trackball on my apple mouse to make fine adjustments in each relevant slider. I also switch between the numerical and non-numerical controls. When I do this, the highlighted clip updates for me in real time while it is paused on a a still.

You could do as Mark says, or you could drag and drop the filter onto your clip, then double click on that clip to load it into the viewer. Your canvas will then update to reflect changes you make using the filter controls as long as your playhead is over that shot. This works with all filters…
