Upgrading from FCP 5 to 6
Hi all, I am just about to upgrade from FCP 5 to 6 in order to use XDCAM footage. I have various HDV projects in various states of completion in FCP5 and i am just wondering if I will encounter any problems with importing and completing these projects in FCP6.
Alternatively is there a way i can run both FCP 5 nad 6 on my Mac?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated

You should clone your current system drive to a firewire drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, then install Leopard and FCS2 from scratch on your system drive. That way you have a backup in case something foes worng, or in case you forgot to copy something, ann you can boot to that one in case you ever need to continue a project in FCP ver. 5.

Probably not, but if you clone beofre upgrading you will have no need for concern, as you can go back in time if you have any issues.

Get yourself a firewire drive and the application called SuperDuper (available online). Clone your system drive to the FW drive with the program. Now you have another bootable startup drive with your previous version of FC Studio to go back to if you run into any problems with current projects. Now you can clean off your system drive and install the new FCS2.
There’s a free program available online to de-install Final Cut Studio, but I would suggest reformatting the system drive and re-install the OS and then FCS2.

Although some folks do it I would not recommend having FCS 1 and 2 on the same system drive, as the requirements of the two versions differ and work best with certain versions of the Mac OS, Quicktime, etc. If you’re editing XDCAM EX you need the following minimum requirements:
OS v.10.4.11
QT v.7.3.1
FCP v.6.0.2
XDCAM FAM driver (no version # available)
Sony Transfer Tool v.2.5.1
Clip Browser v.1.0 (not needed to edit but recommended to have)– Don
