I am having a problem with the lag on final cut pro 5. when i drag the play head, instead of moving smoothly and getting to where i want it to quickly… it jumps around or doesn’t move, moving very choppy and it takes around 2-4 seconds to get to its final place. it is also laggy when i switch between tools (eg arrow and blade tool). it is really annoying and hard to work with at times… especially when we need to edit a large project fast. any ideas as to why it is doing this?

    I have a MacOSX 10.4.11, processor 2.16Ghz intel core 2 duo, 1gb 667MHz ram.

would there be any settings in final cut pro that would make it work so slowly?

I’m not too sure how scratch disks work, but i always have a habit of placing my raw footage (after capture) into my working folder on the desktop together with other parts of the project (stills, scripts, audio etc). Would this affect it too? I’m more used to using Adobe Premiere and there were not many problems with how I manage my work files. any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

    1. You need more RAM.

    2. Do not use your system drive (i.e. your desktop) for media. Media must be on a seperate drive.
