Final Cut Express and Compressor
Posted by Mirela Bogdan on October 20, 2008 at 3:34 pmQuick question about Final Cut Express. I have an iMac and Final Cut Express 4. Can’t seem to find the Compressor anywhere? Is it supposed to come with the iMac or Final Cut E or do I have to buy it separately.
Thanks
Mirela

October 20, 2008 at 5:57 pmCompressor doesn’t come with FCE; it’s part of Studio (and, previously, DVD Studio Pro when it was sold separately). Export directly from FCE or QuickTime Pro instead.

Need to check if I do actually have Quick Time Pro on my iMac. I’m still learning my way around the iMac, being accustomed to work with PC…I know I do have Quick Time of course but not sure the Quick Time Pro is included, or should it come with the package?
Question, I was looking to buy the compressor separately and for what I found this far, this seems to be included in the DVD Studio Pro package. I’ve been searching around and this only seems to come with Final Cut Studio 2. I did find it on Amazon but the item is currently unavaialble and they do not know whey they’ll get it (if ever). Do you know where I could possibly get the DVD Studio package on its own and how much would it cost. Also, do you think it is suitable with Final Cut Express 4? I must admit I am a little annoyed that the compressor does not come with FCE and that nobody at the apple store mentioned the fact that FCE does not come with it as I consider it to be an essential feature. I’ve been trying to upload a video to YouTube but can’t do it without a compressor of some sort.
Sorry for all these questions, I’ve only started video editing in June so still loads of little tricks and tips to learn about

October 21, 2008 at 9:31 amCompressor is only available with Final Cut Studio or some other pro apps, not FCE. You might be able to find an older copy of DVD Studio Pro on eBay that came with Compressor. Most FCE users don’t find it essential to working with FCE.
All the best,
Tom
