  • How to properly de-interlace still frame before exporting it

Posted by Victoria Murphy on September 17, 2008 at 12:44 am

I want to export a freeze frame of NTSC DV so I can use it to create a mask in Photoshop, which I will then import back into FCP. I made a freeze frame but when I viewed it in Photoshop I noticed some haziness around the edge of the part of the image around which I want to create a mask. I think is due to something funky going on with the fields. Should I de-interlace the freeze frame in FCP before I export it? What field should I start with? (I hope I am asking the right questions, it’s been a while since I have dealt with field-interlace related issues.) Thanks.

You can do the de-interlacing in Photoshop. Look in the filters under “Video”. The field order for DV NTSC is lower field first so play with the de-interlace filter in Photoshop until it looks right.
