Hi there, thank for your help, people of Creative Cow, what you are doing for us is amazing!
Being practical, I am trying to export a clip (originally Uncompressed 10 bit) onto a minidv tape. my edit to tape function doesn’t work since we upgraded fcp6, so I have to use print to tape. I put the clip in a sequence with dvpal 48khz settings (pal, 720×576, field lower, 48khz). I rendered the clip and i set the application audio/video settings like that: sequence preset – dv pal 48khz; capture preset – dv pal 48khz; device control – firewire pal; videoplayback – aja Kona 625i25-dv 8bit; audioplayback ajaKona.
i am using a panasonicnv-dv10000b dv recorder connected to my mac trough firewire. it is set ‘recorder, edit, dv in.
well, now theoretically it should work. but it doesn’t. no video or audio signal get to the tape. I tryed different combinations, noway. i tryed the other way around, and if i want to capture it works, but i can t export.
so question : y the signal doesn t go out through the firewire? there might be any setting wrong or any wire i need to connect in another way (we use ajakona and there is a complete edit suit: with patch, amplifier, speakers, betasp recorder…) or i did something wrong with the dvrecorder?
or simply print to video function doesn’t work trough firewire?
I know it’s a complex question to ask but if any one has a hint to give i would be really grateful.
    thank u
    francesca

The problem is your video playback setting. Yours is telling FCP to output DV to the Kona so it can play out composite/component/SDI from the aja device to are using.

Set video playback to firewire device (I don’t have one connected so can’t tell you exactly what it will say, but if it recognises the deck, it will appear in the drop down list you get on the playback setting of the A/V devices tab). Audio should follow as firewire audio.

Monitor your edit to tape by connecting the DV deck to your monitor and speakers – this is important otherwise everything could look out of sync.

    Have fun!

thank u for ur quick reply!
unfotunately i choose that playback setting because the application doesn t give me any other option (related to dv or firewire) so I deduce that it doesn t see the device at all (weird coz if i want to capture through firewiwre i can)
in the device control preset I have the option of fire wire but not in the video play back.
if i select device control rs232, then i can have a video play back through aplle firewire pal, but when i play the movie on the time line it doen’t work ( timeline and clip have both dv pal settings.i am lost and they want the tape for tonite
    :-S

    PS
with apple firewire pal settings i set audio playback firewire dv. the weird thing is that playing on the time line the video goes, but the audio is totally silent. there is not any modulation in the vumeter…

With the deck connected, set the external video to all frames and external video device to firewire – or whatever FCP calls the device, from within the VIEW drop-down menu. Connect a monitor to the deck to see if you can see playback off the timeline on the deck.

If you cannot specify a firewire deck as an external video source, you have an issue with the deck, not FCP.

thank u for ur help. I am really impressed by how kind u r.
I tried to follow ur advises but it didn’t work. I could set device control preset as firewire pal, video playback apple firewire pal and audio playback firewire dv.
no signal (a or v) goes to the deck.
I just solved it connecting the deck to a laptop and it worked.
but still i am going to be hunted by this problem. must be because the way the suit has been set, I guess.
Anyway, thank you for your precious support.
