HVX200 and FCE 2.0.3
I just purchased an HVX200 for future HD use. Currently I am only using it for SD (mini-)DV acquisition. So far the camera has been great. I have a Mac G5, dual 2GHz processors running Mac OS 10.3.9; 1.5 GB RAM. I have both FCE 2.0.3 and iMovie 4 on the system. I can load the SD DV acquisitions thru a Canopus converter using FW400 into iMovie 4 without problems. The system sees all of the clips and loads them to the clip panel; no sweat. I also have a Pana AJ-D410A that has S-video out and I can load it to either iMovie 4 or FCE through the Canopus.
However, when I try to load the HVX200 SD DV to FCE, either through the Canopus or an open FW port on the Mac, it doesn’t work. I get the capture and display windows, but after a long wait (couple minutes), I get an error message saying that it can’t detect any video and then it fails. At this point I am assuming I’m doing something wrong versus there being something wrong with the camera.
Any help would be appreciated.

I sometimes get the same warning with a different camera, but it is usually related to my configuration – the inconsistent performances of my Firewire hub or external drive. For a period of three months I was enduring “frozen video” during capture every 30-40 seconds. Finally upgrading from 3.0 to 3.5.1 eliminated these concerns. I think version 4.0 is currently available.

FCE2 is a DV only editing application that only supports capture from tape. It antedates the HVX200 and P2 media by a few years.

Thanks guys; I do appreciate the help. However, some of what has been said, I’ve already done and which I should have stated or stated more clearly, are the following:
1. I checked apple.com and couldn’t find a link for FCE device approvals. I could for FCP, but not FCE. If someone has a good link, I’d love to see it to see what Apple has to say. The link in the one post above was the same link I had followed and it took me only to FCP Studio approvals.
2. I am only doing SD DV from mini-DV tape at this time. I don’t even have a P2 card yet, sorry to say.
3. I have not had a chance yet, but I will check the Panasonic forums to see if they have any information on this situation.
Again, thanks guys, I truly do appreciate the input. If you have any additional info based on what I said above I’d like to see it.

The camera is much newer than your application. The application will not recognize this camera. I’m sorry, but was that not clear enough? Forget it. It’s not going to work. There is no longer a device listing for FCE.

What a difference two years makes!

Is there any way to convert the P2 files already
on the drive with the above hardware and software,
