  Weird Audio Plpayback

  I’m having a strange audio issue in FCP. I have a regular 48k 16bit Stereo AIFF file on my timeline. It was playing back normally earlier while working on this project. Now when I play the project, either the left or right channel will play normally, and the other side will catch up 10-15 seconds later, but playing at a much slower speed. If I stop it and play it again, it swaps sides, one still playing normally while the other eventually starts at a slower speed.

  Any ideas? I’m baffled. My media hard drive was getting pretty full so I cleared some room and that didn’t fix it. I’m running an 8-core MacPro with no special hardware installed.

  Save your work.

  The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

  A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
  There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.
