Fellow members, I am quite new to videography at present although I am serious about it and willing to learn.
Can someone recommend a good Final Cut book (prefer 6.0) that I can learn from that explains everything from basic to high intermediate and advanced.

I have been photographing for years (social documentary) and now feel that I am ready to make the jump and start using video & only using my photo cameras when required.

I am only just using FCP 6 and its very intimidating when one is using mainly guess work, I keep having difficulties trying to capture the video files from the camera to the mac.

The canon Instruction Manual is very vague and the only FCP manual I have at the moment is for ‘3’ and that was not made with HDV in mind so does not help much.

Any advice, or honest recommendations gratefully received.

    Yours sincere

    Hugh Hill

    Hi Hugh,

I am not much for reading manuals, but you can access FCP6’s manual from the help menu at the top of your screen with FCP active. I generally only use it in conjunction with it’s search feature as a quick reference.

I have found lynda.com to be an invaluable resource, and is the way I learned final cut 5. I recently switched to FCP 6 which functions mostly the same. Lynda.com offers video tutorials taught by industry pros who show you step by step how to use the program and explain the features in human terminology. You can subscribe for a modest monthly fee and access all the tutorials online or purchase specific titles.

    Good luck.
