    1. Are there any real performance issues with capturing to the same drive as the drive that has FCP an Mac OS installed?

    2. How often should a drive that is being used to capture and edit video be
defraged? Does it make much difference performance wise to have it defragged?

    3. Are there any other general tips for keeping a drive for video running optimally?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Yes.

If you are using DV, you will probably get away with using one drive for everything, but it is akin to driving without a seat belt. If this is a hobby, and you can tolerate some risk when it is weighed against the cost savings
