I’m going to purchase an Intel based G5. Can I run DVCProHD off an internal harddrive ATA7200rpm from Apple? Can I run it off an external Firewire 800?

    Thanks

I’m assuming you mean a Mac Pro, not a G5?

Regardless, you will do well to get yourself even a modest striped array – you will be able to do it (just) with 7200rpm drives (even the FW800), but it will give you problems once the drive starts filling.

The Mac Pros have more than enough space inside to stick in 2 additional media hard drives, and RAID them in OSX. You’ll enjoy very few hiccups / frame drops and multiple streams will be a little easier. If you go external, consider the RAID drives from Lacie – you’ll have to go into the 1 to 2 TB range (I think) to find them.

    My two cents.
