Best export options from iMovie or Motion into FCE ?
Hi
I have a question regarding the best export options from iMovie or Motion into Final Cut Express.
I am using Final Cut Express for all my DV editing but sometimes I create sequences in iMovie because I like to new themes and I use them in my FCE projects.
If I export the movie as a DV project and then import into FCE the quality is by far not as good as in iMovie.
Therefore my question –> which export option should and settings should I use?
In addition I am using Motion for short sequences and I am importing the Motion file directly into FCE. Here as well the quality is not that good. What should I do here?

When you say the quality is not as good, where are you looking at the material? On a video monitor? The computer display is low res for preview purposes only. You must view your work on a video monitor. You should also be aware that if you export from iMovie using the DV setting the audio will need to be rendered in FCE.

thanks a lot for your feedback. No – I am not working on a video monitor. But I can tell even on the timeline if I compare it with the quality in iMovie. Well – that could be rendered different. I just thought if I export it from iMovie using DV then the colorspace alone is just 4:1:1 and it is already compressed which may not matter.
What I now do with Motion – I just import it and drag it to the timeline – that works with Motion but not iMovie. I can open iMovie files in FCE and then add those as a sequenz to the FCE project.
I just thought many should have the same problem and there have expierenced what is the best way to do it.
Can you tell me what is a good and affordable way to work with a video monitor. I heard that I shouldn’t connect it through my video camera and maybe my old TV is not the best viewing option either.

No, you cannot. iMovie and FCE handle video display on the computer screen quite differently. If you want to see the video properly you MUST look at it on a video monitor.
Connect a camera or converter box to the your computer and connect that to a monitor. I don’t know why you shouldn’t connect it through a camera.
