Outputting FCE audio tracks to separate Betacam SP tape tracks
After finishing basic news package edit, trying to
output a version with unmixed audio tracks to
Betacam SP tape.The goal is to have natsound and bites on
Beta Channel One, and reporter narration
on Beta Channel Two.How is this accomplished through the
FCE editing and output processes?Much confusion over stereo and non-stereo
channels in the timeline, different channels/tracks
in the timeline, and how this all relates to output.Yes, I do have a Shure field mixer with three inputs
and one output (all stereo) if i require it.Thanks in advance.

You only have two channels on output. Make everything you’re working with mono. Switch any stereo pairs to mono a1/a2 and then delete one of the tracks. Take the narration track as use the pan value to make sure it’s going to left only. Do the same for all the nats and bites and send them to right. When you watch your meters the narration should move only the left meter and the nats should move only the right meter, you should hear narration on one side and nats on the other.

i was actually toying with the types of things
you mentioned earlier today, with limited success.
but they are refreshed in my mind now that
you have mentioned them. if i succeed, i may
be sending you an early christmas present. -
I think I actually helped myself at the outset of my
project without knowing it.Due to 20 years of editing TV news and my somewhat
anal nature, I have been trying to maintain the same
types of settings in my non-linear work as I did in
my linear experience.During capture, I fed Betacam Channel One
soundbites into the left channel of my mini DV
camera on its way to my PowerBook. I also
directed all natsound material recorded on
Betacam Channel Two into the right channel.
And when recording narration straight into
my camera, I kept it on Channel One only.
The results appeared to have made my cleanup
work much easier. There were only a few bites
that I had to turn mono and pan all the way right.
All of the natsound I laid was already on the right
channel.Thanks again for your help. The manuals and
books provide decent, basic explanation, and
the essence of NLE seems to be tailor-made
for news applications. But your ability to
spell things out clearly and in a step-by-step
