FCP set up
Hello i just recently moved from Avid to FCP and i am having a # of issues.
i have a power mac G5 DUAL 2.2 with 4.5 GB of DDR ram
1) what’s the best way to set up the system so that i can have the problems processing stuff.
2) RT effects are not working…the video becomes grainy, drops frames etc.
3) i have an externa HD with a lot more spacethat the mac HD can i allocate EVERYTHING related to FCP there? except the app itself of course.
4)help……please. i’m trying with books etc. and i am lost especially when it comes down to fx, in avid there’s an effect palette with…well you know it. here it’s so different.

Few things…
Make sure timeline set to unlimited RT (drop down menu in Timeline corner)
You can target FCP Studio support media only during install (part of Custom install options. As far as capture and such.. of course…. just change System Settings.
As far as learning.. suggest you look t both FCP on the Spot (a book) and aboslute Training for Final Cut Studio… Good for those who are experienced editors trying to amtch the witch quickly

Paolom,
the system settings are in the Application Menus. The “Easy Setups” take the brainwork out of settings – thery are settings templates.
Have you read thru the manual? You’ll probably be OK for most things coming from an Avid, but this sort of stuff is the nuts and bolts in the first few chapters that will save you a lot of these headaches if you go in armed with the knowledge…
