  My really frustrating install issue

  Hi all… While I can;’t be described as a ‘calf’ with FCP, this issue has me stymied, and it qualifies as a basic question:

  We have 5 licenses of FCP around here. 3 are FC Creative SUites that were originally purchased as FCP HD 4.5 or 4.0, and then upgraded. Two are stand alone FCP installs, both FCP 5.0

  Recently a contract artist was hired at the same time we got a brand new quad G5. The guy installed his license of Shake, and for simplicity he also installed his license of FCP. We hadn’t yet bought a license for this machine. OK, fine. When he left, we wiped his apps off the machine by dragging them to the trash.

  In the mean time this quad did duty as an After Effects station for the most part. Finally I decided it was time to put an FCP install on it. So I bought an FCP suite to do just that…

  The computer installs only parts of the suite. FCP itself is ‘grayed out’ when I run the installer, and won’t install. The Soundtrack install claims I don’t have sufficient hardware (G4 processor or better, blah, blah… UH we’re trying to install on a quad G5 with 8 gigs of memory !). None of my other licenses will install either.

  Anybody have any ideas ? It ‘feels’ to me like my contract dude’s FCP license left behind some kind of system cookie thats making the machine think it already has FCP 5… Thats pure supposition.

  Any help MUCH appreciated. I’m getting tired of having to switch machines to run FCP when I have a fresh un-used license hanging around !

  Hi Bob,

  I haven’t dealt with your issue specifically, but here is the list of files I would look into.

  users//library/com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
  users//library/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs.fcset
  users//library/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro Obj Cache.fcmch
  users//library/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro Prof Cache.fcmch

  Preference files to trash when there is app trouble – might be causing the problem;.

  root/library/preferences/com.apple.RegFinalCutStudio.plist

  I found this one while poking around, and I would bet this is causing the problem for you.

  root/library/application support/Final Cut Pro System Support

  Houses Custom Setting and Plug-ins. Probably not causing your issue.

  I am a bit parnoid, but I would copy these files to a removable drive,

  Eject the drive,

  Then trash the files individually followed by reboot.

  When the system wakes up, see if your installer works.

  Hi Bob,

  Tom’s idea’s are good and you should try them. But I think the issue you’re having is related to the ‘recipts’ folder. I didn’t see it in Tom’s post-if so, you can ignore this post. An install program looks at the recipts folder to see what’s already install.
  I believe it’s in you Library FOlder on your HD-NOt you’re user Library. You’ll see a FCP recipts, DVD STudio Pro, as well as others, if you get them all, the next time you go to your installer none of them should be grayed-out.
