  Hi-8 and 8mm vid to digital conversion for broadcast

  Got some Hi-8 and 8mm vid shot on a Samsung VP-L300 camera in NZ recently.

  Sorry, but there is no entry-level unit that will “clean up” the quality of home video tape to “broadcast quality” level.

  The footage you have now will look the same after it is put into the computer.

  Unless noisey, low-resolution images are what you WANT (and sometimes, “for effect” you do),
  the music video will not look “clean” if your source tapes are not.

  One-chip camcorders and analog tapes are not even “close” to the same quality of 3-chip digital units.

  Thanks for reply – my first post to this forum – referred from DLF colleague.

  A lot of the footage is “atmospheric” to put it kindly! But some is quite good.

  I recall people using Hi-8 for docos and they went to broadcast some years back. So if original is ok then will be ok for broadcast too?
  Otherwise will use it as a “style” as you suggest

  My friend is using a Canopus filter and I thought he meant it would tidy up the general glitches of analogue as opposed to any improvement on my original footage.

  Any extra elucidation would be appreciated and thanks again for your reply
