I am student at the University of Lethbridge – I have just purchased a sony hdv 1080i/minidv – I have final cut express – I am able to capture, I have a power book and imac – but on both computers it drops frames – and does not play back in ‘real time’ – i have changed the settings, set up and prefrences for hd…any ideas or suggestions?

I suggest that oucapture to an external drive FW 400 or 800, for starters. After you have captured, make sure just the drive is connected when you are editing.

    G’day,

I’d consider doing any or all of the following.

    1. Increase the RAM to the maximum amount available

    2. Use a 7200-rpm or faster external hard disk as the capture location. It’s better to have separate disks for the operation system and the storage for the capture

    3. Shut down as many other applications as you can

    4. When you’re capturing, don’t use other applications

Please let us know how you’re going.

    Regards,
    Doug
