    Hi,

We would like to shoot DV and capture live into Final Cut Pro while at the same time making an identical timecode copy on the DV tape. This will allow us to log and capture and name files immediately. Our trial run with the Sony Z1 did not transmit the T/C to Final Cut. Can anybody suggest workflows or equipment to make this happen?

What version are you using? This did not work in v5. I’m not sure if it’s working again in 5.1.

    All the best,

    Tom

We are using FCP 5.04 with Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz. We can get sound & picture but no T/C from the camera. I have tried the Sony Z1 and Canon XL-1 with the same results. We want to capture and edit on set using FCP. I know there are capture software and firestore drives available but we would like to go direct into FCP and eliminate a mid application. Is this a camera issue or a FCP issue?

It’s an FCP issue. It worked in earlier versions. It’s broken in 5. I don’t know about 5.1.

Adrienne Electronics makes a time code reader with vtr emulations (AEC-Box-2) that will connect to the RS-422 port of a capture card. This will allow you to do a capure now with external time code if you set your device control appropriately.

This is a major work around for you, and may not even work since your camera is unlikely to allow you to jam sync to external time code or have a time code output.

Just thought I’d add this solution for others reading the thread with slightly different requirements.
