  • Urgent: 16.9 Anamorphic footage converted to 4×3 Letterbox – FCP

My source footage is 16.9 anamorphic, how can this be layed to tape in 4×3 (letterbox) format? Is it a setting in the Final Cut Pro timeline (or export process), or is a (software plugin/ hardware) conversion required? Thanks.

Put your anamorphic video or timeline into a normal 4:3 timeline sequence and FCP will shrink it to fit, effectively letterboxing it for you.

Just make a sequence and drop the anamorphic footage in the timeline: et voila!

If that doesn’t work, the anamorphic footage isn’t defined as such. then:
Right click on the clip, choose the “format” option and check the “anamorphic” line.

    Repeat from start.

But the footage fills the screen, and doesn’t letterbox on the monitor? (seems to be 1.9 anamorphic)

Make sure tha anamorphic flag is set on the properties of the movie or clip before bringing it into the 4:3 timeline.
