Advice on going from FCP sequence to WMV file using flip4mac?
Hi, I’m rushing to meet a tight deadline, I wonder can you save me some trial and error? I’m working on exporting a decent WMV file using flip4mac (basic Studio version), beginning with a QT .mov exported from FCP7. All resulting WMV’s so far have been of poor quality and perhaps too small for the intended presentation mode (projected using Powerpoint). I’ve got Compressor 3.5.3 at my disposal also if that helps. Any tips much appreciated.

Try SmartConverter from the Apple App Store. It’s free and handles WMV files quite well. There is also a Pro version but I’ve never used it.

Thanks jr, just did a quick test and it looks like it’s gonna work fine. I have one more quick question if you don’t mind.. When converting to a WMV like this, what are the advised FCP sequence settings as regards Field Dominance (ie. Upper, Lower, or None) to avoid any field issues in the conversion? Perhaps lowering the frame size to 960×720 is a help in this regard also?

Yea, interlacing is only for broadcast or DVD playback on an interlaced TV. All web media and computer playback should be rendered progressive (no fields).

Most Windows computers should be able to handle 720p. I would not use 1080 as this can stutter on some older systems.
