What i have is a building falling to pieces using shatter for a school test.
The building is far away and half the screen is a beach. when the building collapses,it falls all the way to the bottom of the screen, over the sand, looking very false. what i need to achieve is for the building to fall down (which it does) but for the shattering to finish at its base. I dont know how to make this happen. I have tried altering the shatter commands but no good. How i see it is that the base of the building until the bottom of the screen should be invisible or transparent as to give the effect that the shattered pieces end at the base of the building. How would i achieve this? with masking? if yes, how? if no…how?
    thanks a million!

Unfortunately, shatter pieces can’t lie in a heap. They can’t be stopped that way.

I can think of one solution:
    – the building layer is actually a comp, where the building is at the bottom of the comp.As you shatter the building, the pieces fall out of the comp and disappear.
    – something is placed in the beach comp (over the building layer) to obscure the fact that a heap does not appear. Usually a large dust cloud or a sand dune will suffice. Stock footage might be best for the cloud, but you might be able to fake it with Particular.

Normally, this is done with 3D software or miniatures. AE isn’t very good at creating realistic simulations.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve
