Apple Pro Res 422LT conversion changes
Posted by Lara Taylor on July 6, 2015 at 9:22 amHi there
I have been converting 5D MK3 footage into Apple Pro Res 422(LT) and it’s all been fine till a large file – 4.28GB comes out a gig bigger. Can you tell me why that would be?
Thanks

July 6, 2015 at 7:38 pmH.264 is the source, I believe.
And yes, this is normal. You are converting a highly compressed camera original to an editable codec. It’s larger because it’s not as compressed, and doesn’t require the computer to deal with that compression…and slow down. Premiere can deal with this format natively…but only if you throw lots of RAM and fast processors and good graphics card at it. If you use premiere and an underpowered computer, then it’s also suggested to convert to ProRes or other editing codec.
And yes, that makes the files larger. TO make them easier to edit.

LT, while good, and quite acceptable in many situations, would not be the best codec to use if you want to do a high quality master of your work.
for a large screening, say. for for some high-end colour correctionif you planing to go back to the original at some stage. make sure you have got your Cannon files in the correct format,
and are transcoding them properly.
i’m no export on that, Shane is.OR transcode to a highger quality codec
however, as i say: LT is quite fine in many instances.
