  Editing together 30 fps and 24fps (shot on Canon cameras)

  Hello everyone.

  I have footage shot on two Canon cameras.

  1. Canon 7D @ 24fps.
  2. Canon G7X @ 30 fps.

  What should I do before I start editing? Convert the 30 fps –> 24 fps in compressor? Don’t convert and edit everything on the same timeline?

  I will be using Final Cut Pro 7.

  What frame rate do you want to be the main one? If 24p…23.98, then yes, you will have to convert all the 30fps to match using Compressor. And you’ll need to set all the FRAME CONTROLS to BEST, and this means the conversions will take a LONG TIME. Note that they will not look exactly like the 24p footage, because it wasn’t shot 24p, it was shot 30fps and converted. It’ll be close, but it won’t be exact….know that going in.

  ALL the footage has to be converted to ProRes 422 before you edit…just in case you didn’t know that.

  Thank you, Shane.

  Yes, I want the resulting frame rate to be 24p (23.98). The final destination will be YouTube, so I can live if the conversion isn’t 100%.

  I will try to find a Compressor frame rate tutorial on YouTube. If you know of one offhand, please let me know!

  Any other suggestions, please feel free to chime in!
