  Which is better, the lighter or darker shot?

  So, I’m often shooting dark things outside. I’m always torn. If I stop down a lot, the sky wont be overexposed. But the dark things are dark. The reverse is true if I stop up. Thoughts on what is a better image for us in FCP7?

  First off, your clips are the reverse…your darker shot is the one you labelled lighter. But, that doesn’t matter.

  What also doesn’t matter is the sky. It’s not the main focus, the cabin is. The lighter shot is correct…you want the cabin properly exposed. The sky can be blown out, because it doesn’t have any relevant information…other than to show us that we are outside.
