If I need subtitles in DCP files, what are the options?

Should I put titles in the FCP before exporting to make DCP files? That way the video is coupled with subtitles all the time?

Or there is a way to make subtitles files in DCP? Export video from FCP without subtitle? that way maybe there will be choices to have a few different language subtitles that can couple with Non-subtitle video?

    Any inputs will be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    George

The DCP spec allows for subtitle data files to be added to a clean picture in the DCP. I don’t know how you would produce the subtitle file to add using FCP however.

I have only made one subtitled DCP (using OpenDCP software) and noted that there was that capability but the master file had baked in English subtitles.

Thanks for the reply. Was it easy to use easy DCP? How long is your movie?

So you placed the subtitle in FCP before exporting to make the DCP files?

Open DCP is pretty easy plus I found some youtube clips that helped explain the workflow.

Yes subtitles were put on in FCP and baked into the master ProRes file. The program was 85 minutes – a feature doco
