Sony PMW-100 XDCAM, mpr.ewc2 files and importing to FCPX
Hello all,
I recently shot a friends wedding and borrowed his work’s Sony PMW-100 XDCAM for the ceremony. When I came back and tried to import the clips into Final Cut Pro X, I noticed FCPX didn’t recognize the video files.
I’ve attached a photo of the file structure but it seems the files were saved as “filename.mp4.ewc2”
Since the PMW-100 records onto an SD card, I first copied the entire card (file structure intact) onto my HDD and tried to import but no luck. I then directly connected the camera with SD card in it and tried to import but FCPX would still not recognize the files.
After researching, the best I could find was that .ewc2 files were for the Edius editing software and I would need to convert the footage to ProRes422. It makes since because my friend works for a TV news station and they edit on Edius but I can’t seem to find any converter that will switch it to ProRes422
ClipWrap’s trial edition didn’t accept it. I’ve also tried Acrok MXF Converter for Mac and Wondershare Video Converter.
I’m at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try downloading, installing and using the Sony XDCam Utility and Codecs…that should provide files that work natively in FCP.

Hi All, I have a related situation, I have a hard drive full of .MXF files that were transferred from a Sony XDCAM F-800 23GB professional Disc reader onto the drive as files.
I ran the installation for both the Canon and Sony plugins

Any suggestions on how to load the .MXF files into FCPX? Thanks!

I am having the same problem as Michael. I have downloaded the plugin and Codecs for FCPX I think but when I try to import all my MXF Files My FCPX crashes and it says because of the flamingo_/Sony/RAD plugin, is what makes it crash.
I have both FCPX and Premiere Pro if anyone has a solution or could direct me to a solution to convert my files to a ProRes or an editable file that would be much appreciated.

did you solve your problem now? Sometimes the codec downloaded didn’t do what they should do. And for fcp, it will transcode the origianl videos into prores behind the backstage. so you can try to convert them first, then reload into fcp, suggest you try some converters, but not for sure about the outputq quality, once I had tried one from pav, which turned OK, you can have a try.
