  FCP 7 editing sequence settings: XDCAM EX or apple pro res?

  Hi all: When I first starting cutting xdcam ex 50i footage, I found advice to use one of the apple pro res settings for my sequence. I did that initially, but now I am using the XDCAM EX 50i settings to edit. I think that’s because apple is now supporting the xdcam ex codec. But perhaps FCP always has.

  Anyway, I do incorporate a wide variety of video formats in my xdcam ex timelines and occasionally have issues such as the video output freezing or the audio playing but no video display.

  Would I see a visual improvement with apple pro res or would one of those pro res settings make my system more stable or anything?

  Or should I continue using XDCAM ex?

  I’d definitely go for the ProRes settings, specially if you mix different codecs and sizes.
  Way more stable.

  You can set the sequence to XDCam EX, but set the render to ProRes if I remember correctly. That way native footage doesn’t require rendering, but anything added that isn’t XDCam is rendered as ProRes. Best of both worlds.
