  Audio out of sync after analogue capture

  I posted about this issue a couple days ago, but I have clearer idea about it now so I’ll give it another shot. The short version is that I can’t get an analogue import to sync properly and I’m looking for solutions.

  I’m digitizing several old VHS tapes. I’m running the VCR’s out (via RCA) to my DVX-100 where the footage “streams” through the VCR mode there as I import it into FCP7. There’s no timecode so it’s captured as a Non Controllable Device.

  Footage is sync’d on display, but in FCP it starts about a second and a half off, and later, is about two or three seconds off.

  This seems to be due to frequent blank-outs and regular tape noise. Many of the tapes start right away, without any leader.

  I’ve tried recording onto DV, and then importing as DV but, besides the fact that I haven’t found a way to lay timecode onto the in-camera recording, this would nearly double the project time.

  Is there any easy way around this problem?
