I’ve got a video that was made on Premiere and exported as an MPEG (I’m unsure what kind) and I need to edit it in FCP7. MPEG streamclip, which has handled anything I’ve thrown at it, has failed me this time, reading only the audio but producing a black screen. Anyone know how to fix this? is there any other free software that I can use?

    Thanks!

If you have Media Info use that to find out what type of MPEG you have. That will make it easier to know how to proceed.

Ah. Spoke to the guy who made it and he tried it on his computer with no joy either so looks like a corrupt file…weird as it plays in finder and VLC but not in quicktime or MPEG Streamclip!

Have you tried opening it in QuickTime or Compressor. If it opened you could export a ProRes file. Can the guy export another copy? Hopefully, he tests it before sending it on. If he doesn’t have ProRes he could export uncompressed. Then you could use that or transcode it to ProRes in Compressor.
