  Render and Export Settings for Large-Form Exports

  Hi,

  Working on a 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro with 24 GB RAM — for Final Cut 7.

  I have a feature I’m outputting and was curious if there is anything I’m missing to optimize my output time.

  Footage: Pro Res 4444
  TRT: 85 mins.

  Sequence is defaulted at 8-bit YUV. I have in-to-out light green Preview bars. I go to output and get the Error, so I go to render, 2 hours. Crap. I change the render to RGB. Light green bars gone. Strange because I thought Pro Res 4444 was YUV since it comes out of the camera (ALEXA) with a Rec709 color space.

  Okay whatever. I go to export. Straight Quicktime Conversion. 2 hours.

  Does this sound right?

  After this I need to compress it down to an H.264. Is there a better way to do this instead of outputting a master and then bringing that into compressor?

  I tried going straight to Compressor last night but after 11 hours it was still chewing on getting this fat bastard into an H.264.

  Thoughts welcome.

  assuming this is 1920×1080 @24fps
  that’s a 160G file you are creating there, so yeah it doesn’t sound too far off

  yes, export as a reference file, non self contained.
  THEN run it though Compressor.

  DO NOT do Quicktime CONVERSION…that’s recompressing the file. Either QT Movie, self contained (for a full res version of the show, in a single file)…to archive and use to convert to H.264…or Reference movie to use to convert.
