I have a ton of files to convert to Pro Res, all 1920×1080 HD, but shot with (3) different cameras. I used Streamclip to do a test on one file that was 45.4 mb originally. After the 422 conversion, that same file now becomes 363.3mb! That 8 times bigger! I have used this program before, but that seems awfully big to me.
Is this size growth correct? Am I clicking or selecting something wrong in the 422 choices? Under the 422 selection, there are two choices that are identical, but I don’t know the difference between them….

[Jonny Cates] “Is this size growth correct?”

    Most likely.

    1 hour of ProRes 422 1920×1080 29.97fps = 75.3GB
    1 hour of ProRes HQ 1920×1080 29.97fps = 112.4GB
    1 hour of ProRes LT 1920×1080 29.97fps = 52.6GB

If the frame rate is lower, say 23.98, then the file size will be lower:

    1 hour of ProRes 422 1920×1080 23.98fps = 60.4GB

How long of a clip do you have that’s 363MB? The only way I get something that small is if I choose ProRes Proxy, and the clip is one min long 1080p 23.98. One min of ProRes 422 1080i 29.97 is 1.3GB.

Thanks for the info Dave. I see yet another, external hard drive in my future.

Yup…all very normal. Bigger hard drives are in order.
