exporting a 23.98PsF QT file from FCP
So I know this is not new information and I have searched this forum with no luck so I’m hoping to find out by directly asking. I am delivering a finished QT with the following specs “Apple ProRes HQ 1920x1080psf, 23.98fps,4:2:2 original aspect ratio”. So all footage was shot on a 5D(1920×1080, 23.98) and converted to ProRes 422 for editing. I have no experience delivering a psf file and don’t know how to do so? So my question is how do I create this file without using hardware? I know this is usually done through hardware when outputting to tape, but can it be done through software? Any help would be great!

Just change your sequence compressor to ProRes HQ…re-render. Then export a self contained QT file. Everything is already 23.98….done.

What Shane says is correct, and you should follow his instructions.
To elaborate on the other part of your question: there is no such thing as PsF in file formats. PsF is only created upon output over SDI. The spec sheet is wrong or has a typo. A ProRes HQ file at 23.976 fps will ALWAYS be P, not PsF. In the file based world, progressive frames have no reason to be segmented.
