  CBR H264 with FCP7 / Compressor

  I need to output several files with: H264 CBR
  In compressor I only see a restricting bit rate choice. When I set this to the client’s requested bit rate, it’s hit or miss – slightly below or above that limit; inconsistent. What gives? Is there a way to set CBR so all my files have the same bit rate?

  I’m not much sure how to make a CBR H264. I guess, beside limiting the data rate, would be necessary to set a key-frames value, so all the GOPs would have the same length and structure.
  The problem is which key-frames value to set. You have no way to know which one is the optimal. The optimal GOP length depends of the picture contents (movement, detail, shots,..).

  Personally I don’t see a single reason to use CBR. You just get a less efficient compression and so, some times less quality.
