Downconverting 1080i for a 720 sequence
Hello All,
I’m trying to create a work flow to edit footage I’ve shot on my Sony HVR-A1U and GoPro HD Hero 2. The GoPro footage is 720p60 coformed to 30fps. I think the wise thing to do is to downconvert the ProRes 1080i files from the HVR-A1U to 720 but I’m wondering what the best way to do it is.
Compressor? Handbrake? Mpegstreamclip? Media Manager. Ideally I’d like to output the footage with no interlacing for the web @ 720p. And use ProRes as my editing codec. So the crux of the issue is how to get 1080i ProRes to 720p ProRes using only the programs listed
Yes I understand there are pieces of hardware i can purchase to do this that are the proper solution, but if you could for now think of a way with just the listed equipment that would be great

Your post is confusing.
You shot 720p and you want to edit and output 720p.
You can still use prores codec with 720p.Do you have 1080i footage?

I would give Compressor a shot and use the Frame Controls setting to get a better looking deinterlace. As an aside, what you are looking to do is cross converting (going from one HD flavor to another) and not down converting (which would be going from HD to SD). 1080i60 and 720p60 pretty much contain the same amount of picture information. 1080i60 has more spacial information but 720p60 has more temporal information.

Use a 720p sequence setting. Drop your 1080i footage into the sequence and render.
No need to cross-convert your footage before editing.
