  FCP6, One Way Color Corrector

  Hello,

  I’m currently color correcting a documentary within FCP 6 (not Color).

  The specs of my sequence:
  Prores 422 sequence converted from DV footage shot on Panasonic AG DVX 100B 24P.

  While I have been largely working with the 3 way color corrector, there have been places were I preferred the look of the one way color corrector in fcp.

  Upon looking it up some more on the web, I came across posts that said that the one way color corrector filter may not be able to handle 10bit and downgrades the clip to 8 bit.

  Is this a fact? Or have I misunderstood the statement? I would greatly appreciate any clarifications from the folks here.

  You have more control over 3 way color corrector.

  Hi Steve,

  True. But should one decided to go for one way cc for any reason, can one way cc handle 10 bit or will it treat the clip as 8 bit?

  Download DaVinci Resolve Lite if you are so concerned about 10 bit vs 8 bit.

  Thanks, Steve, for the option. I will certainly look into it.

  Meanwhile, however, I would really appreciate it if someone would be able to clarify this for me. Mostly, all posts I have come across where people have asked this question- here or elsewhere- they’ve been nudged towards checking something else out. Obviously, this isn’t the best option there is.

  But… can one way color corrector handle 10-bit or not?

  If you took your time and converted your DV footage to ProRes, take your time and use the correct color correction. There are also 3rd party plug ins that will give you different looks. Magic Bullet Looks and Tiffen Dfx are just a couple. One Way Color is for quick and easy correction. This will not give you the correct look.

  I believe in doing things the correct way. Just my opinion.

  Steve,

  I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post. However, this does not really answer my question- which wasn’t whether or not I should use the filter but whether or not the filter is 10 bit friendly.

  If anyone has experience with this, please let me know.

  Is not about 8/10b.
  That filter works in 8b RGB. Avoid it unless you are rendering to something like Animation.
