EXPORTING FOR BROADCAST (Music video)
Hi,
I have searched the internet for this problem but couldn’t find anywhere to get help. A television channel have asked me to export my edit in the following format:
Format: DV 4:2:0 25 Mb/s
Size: 4:3
Audio reference (RMS):-12 dBf
Maximum audio: -6 dBf
Chroma subsampling:4:2:2
Format: DV PAL-25, self-contained (QuickTime Movie )
Audio channels: Left, Right ( 48 kHz )I have edited in final cut for over 3 years now, but I have never had to export with these conditions. I have no idea how to set my quicktime conversion to 25 data rate and still have a DV export. How do I set chroma subsuming to 4:2:2? … And Final Cut doesn’t have a DV PAL -25 compression type, am I right?
The edit is in FULL HD (1920×1080), compressed from RED RAW 4K. fps is: 23.98…

Hi Mate,
You are right, that request is completely contradictory.
DV25 is 420. They can’t ask you DV25 and 422 at the same time.

The 422 is indeed bogus, but the rest is pretty normal DV…
And FCP has an easy setup for that…But before you’re there:
since you shot 23.98, speed up to 25.
since you shot HD, make a center cut or do a pan/scan…hth,

Oh the humanity. Shot Red 4K, deliver DV25.
The frame rate issue will be the trickiest. If you conform 24 to 25, your timing changes and audio has a slight pitch shift. Can you deal with that?

Nope, make an inbetween @ 720 x 576 in 23.976,
(Prores or whatever, as long as it is I frame only)
Take that to Cinematools and conform to 25
Then, speed up your sound while maintaining pitch (any decent audio editor can do this), then export the whole shebang to DV pal.
(Using an easy setup in FCP, but other options are plenty)Bouke

Yes, DV PAL 48Kz is the sequence preset name. No Anamorphic.

Okay, thank you very much :).. I’ll try to speed up the audio.. And a last question:
With “25 Mb/s” do they just mean 25fps? Have never run into Mb/s before, or is it Date Rate?Thank you!

I would not recommend doing any of this inside FCP. Work on your master, then EXPORT that as a self contained file. Full size file….or even 1080, at 23.98. Then conform that to 25fps. Bring the result into a Compressor to convert it to PAL DV. And the audio into Soundtrack Pro to adjust the pitch shift.
Again, note that your timing between 24fps and 25fps will change, because you are using the same frames, only speeding things up by one frame every second.
But that’s me. I haven’t delivered NTSC to PAL, so I might be wrong. Trust the other guys over me. But maybe this suggestion will give them ideas, or they can shoot me down and say “that’s wrong for SO MANY reasons, Shane.”

Sure, i would do as you suggest for time-base correction and downscaling.
i would care about the audio pitch only if there is some music or interviews. For normal ambience I would leave it as it is.
