    Hello All

I am working on a low budget docie which means no money for edit drives.

We have 4x 3TB WD internal drives and looking at buying a Netstor 5Bay RAID enclosure with USB3, eSata and FW800 connections. Drive will be setup to RAID 5

I want to get a ExpressCard for my Macbook Pro 17′ (2011 model 8,3)

What is the best connection option…USB3 or eSata?

Will be using ProRes 422 media mostly.

I hear different things about USB3….
    – Cant daisy chain with USB3
    – Sonnets card burned out the hardrives connected
    – Lacie cards only support Lacie drives
    – Speed not really as fast or faster than eSata. Throughput of USB 3 is low.

Anyone have any experience with USB3 or eSata cards?
Any thoughts on the Netstor 5Bay USB3/eSata/FW800?

    Appreciate your advice!!

I’d go with eSata or FW800 for editing. Both of those protocols move video information (steam stream of data) more efficiently than USB (data bursts).
