    Hi folks,

I’m editing a project on FCP 7 with Macbook Pro using Cinema Display as the exterior monitor. The MBP sits on a Targus fan mat. The video is housed on a Seagate drive. Recently I began noticing extra heat (on the upper left) and an increased whirring sound. I unplugged the Targus to confirm that it was the MBP making the whirring noise.

Experimenting now w/ wireless keyboard & clamshell mode, leaving the laptop slightly open to aid ventilation. Still getting the heat & whirring especially during renders. I’ll be getting an exterior trackpad as well to see if that helps.

Any input from folks in similar territory would be most humbly appreciated. thanks 🙂

Hopefully your situation is not the same, but the last time I experienced a heat build up and very active fan – on a 14 month old Seagate Barracuda, the drive failed very soon after.

Be extra diligent with your back-ups while trying to figure this out.

    Good luck.
